He developed a taste for jazz at a very young age and studied jazz piano with his father Sammy and later in London with pianist/composer Stan Tracey. He furthered his studies in composition with Maestro Pawlu Grech and at the University of Malta where he graduated with a Masters degree in 2010. In 2011 he was awarded by the London College of Music with the FLCM Diploma in Professional Achievement, a certificate of Outstanding Musicianship from Berklee. Galea participated in several festivals around the world, namely Slovakia, Egypt, Australia, and Italy amongst others. He also won the Best Composer Award at the “Malta Music Awards” and an “Outstanding Musicianship Certificate” from Berklee in Umbria both in 2001. He has also performed in various cultural festivals across Europe where he has had the opportunity to work and even record with world renowned artists such as Clark Tracey, Wayne Naus, Martin Shaw, Mark Lewandowski, Brandon Allen, Nadin Teimoori, Bodek Janke and others. During the 1985 Bratislava Jazz Days, his original "Horizon" composition was recorded on a double album in a compilation of world-renowned jazz artists such as Stanley Clarke, Terje Rypdal and John McLaughlin. Among others, his versatile compositions include sixteen musicals, a ballet for children, and many works inspired by Maltese poetry. He has produced over twenty albums with his music. He was a member of the Board of the Malta Council for the Arts between 2013 and 2017 and teaches in the Department of Music at the University of Malta. Dominic is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta.
